I am a licensed certified social worker with over 18 years of experience working with individuals, couples and groups.
I bring many years of experience as a former professional dancer to the therapeutic process. My practice is rooted in psychodynamic and gestalt orientations and Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy®.
After receiving my Masters in Social Work at Hunter College in 2001, I worked for the Jewish Board of Children and Family Services as well as New York City Department of Homeless Services where I supervised staff and MSW students and ran many therapy groups and task groups. In graduate school, my area of concentration was groupwork which led me to explore the use of activity in groups. I subsequently published an article in the Social Work with Groups journal entitled, "The Purposeful Use of Performance in Groups: A New Look at the Balance Between Task and Process" and presented at the annual conference of the Association for the Advancement of Social Work with Groups on the dynamics of presentation/task groups and the efficacy of self-run peer supervision groups.
In addition to training at the Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy, I completed my post-graduate training with Ruella Frank, Ph.D. at the Center for Somatic Studies. I have also spent the last 20 years studying authentic movement and have maintained a yoga practice for over 20 years.
In my personal life, I am a mother of two teenage boys who bring me immense joy and some of the most important moments of self-discovery and growth I have had in my life. I believe that my experience as a parent brings an additional layer of knowledge, understanding and current experience to my work with parents and caregivers.
